December 10, 2017, 2:00pm - December 10, 2017, 3:00pm
Join us at the Stephen and Harriet Myers Residence, as we explore the humble beginnings of the holiday we experience today. How were the first Christmas trees decorated? What did the first holiday card in the Capital Region look like? When did Santa Clause first appear in the newspaper? Learn about Albany’s connection to the creation of the holiday season!
Children can explore the toys of the mid 19th century and create a paper Victorian ornament inspired by the decorations on our tree. We will read a copy of The Night Before Christmas that includes the illustrations originally published in 1844. We are unveiling the newest additions to our museums collection that show what life was like for Stephen and Harriet.
Enjoy light refreshments and take advantage of our Holiday Shoppe!
There is a $10 suggested donation per family. Allow the history of the holiday season to unfold in front of your eyes.

A Star Has Burnt My Eye
By Howard Fishman
Directed by Paul Lazar
Featuring: Osei Essed, Dina Maccabee, and Charlotte Mundy
A Star Has Burnt My Eye is a multimedia theatrical meditation on the life and music of polymath Elizabeth “Connie” Converse (1924 – ?), who some have taken to calling “the first singer songwriter.” A prototype of the DIY artist, Converse wrote and self-recorded an extraordinary collection of songs in the early 1950’s before deliberately vanishing years later in despair of never finding her audience. The show features a group of New York musicians, led by playwright and composer Howard Fishman, who perform her songs, read from her letters, and make the case for Converse’s particular genius, and her belated status as a great lost American artist.
A version of A Star Has Burnt My Eye had its world premiere at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) in November 2016, and was a New York Times Critics Pick. The production is directed by Paul Lazar, and coincides with Howard Fishman’s residency on Converse this semester at Skidmore.
Presented with support from the Skidmore College: President’s Discretionary Funds, Dean of Faculty’s Office, Tang Museum, Theater Dept., English Dept., Gender Studies, Art Dept., and Music Dept.
The Performance will be located in the Black Box Theater of the JKB

JAZZ at Caffe Lena with Chuck Lamb Trio and Vic Juris
December 5, 2017, 7:00pm - December 5, 2017, 9:00pm
In an intimate listening room that combines the refinement of a concert hall with the comfort of a living room, Caffe Lena is devoting the 1st Tuesday of each month to America's most original contribution to the musical palate, JAZZ. This continuing series is hosted by resident composer, pianist and jazz master, Chuck Lamb, with support from music producer Joel Moss. JAZZ at Caffe Lena features collaborations between Lamb and internationally touring jazz artists, as well as many of the Capital Region's best.
Chuck Lamb, who has been a member of the Brubeck Brothers Quartet since 2002, is not only an exciting and emotive pianist in his own right, but also a prolific composer of jazz, fusion, classical and world music. Most recently, Chuck and his band have released a CD of his original acoustic fusion music, titled North By Northeast. The CD has been receiving airplay on major jazz stations and garnering new fans and rave reviews worldwide.
Lamb's featured guest for the month of December is famed jazz guitarist Vic Juris. In a career that spans nearly a half-century, Juris has played in every format imaginable, including invaluable contributions to the groups of David Liebman and Gary Peacock, a superb guitar duo with Larry Coryell, and as a special guest of the Mingus Big Band.
Juris made his recording debut with Saxophonist Eric Kloss in 1975 and has since appeared on more than two hundred jazz recordings. The Guitarist's newest, Vic Juris Plays Victor Young, presents Vic and the trio settling into the works of a Great American Songbook Composer. Tonight's intimate concert will showcase Juris's flowing, warm toned, bop influenced lyricism and his penchant for unbridled swinging.
