SUMMARY:Inked: Stigma\, Otherness\, and Art
DESCRIPTION:For at least five thousand years\, humans have used tattoos to permanently modify their appearance. Tattoos—inked designs embedded in the skin—function as markers of both belonging and exclusion. In Ancient Greek\, the word for tattooed mark or puncture is stigma\, and the meaning of the word in contemporary English (a mark of disgrace\, a setting apart) remains pertinent today. Steeped in taboo\, tattoos have visually read as markers of otherness since the early modern Euro-American colonization of the medium. \nSep 27\, 2025 – Sep 27\, 2026

SUMMARY:Sheila Pepe: When & Where We Rest
DESCRIPTION:Everyone rests in one way or another. But what does rest look and feel like—inside each of us and to the outside world around us? Must we steal moments to be able to rest\, and when we do so\, what parts of our bodies or minds are still active? Do we rest too much or too little? And who decides what’s enough or too much? These questions are universal\, but the answers are as individual as each of us. \nOct 11\, 2025 – Sep 12\, 2027

SUMMARY:All These Growing Things by The Tang
DESCRIPTION:All These Growing Things presents contemporary and historical paintings\, prints\, textiles\, photography\, and sculpture from the Tang Museum collection that explore questions of becoming and belonging. It will examine connections to personal\, ancestral\, and cultural histories; masking as an approach to both reveal and conceal identities; and the possibilities of transformation. How do we grow as individuals\, in relationships\, and alongside the communities to which we belong? How do we grow with or against the natural world\, and what will become of human-animal-plant connections in the future? In a museum\, how does a collection of artwork grow in conversation with urgent issues in our communities?

SUMMARY:CRAZY Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:BAU Gallery is pleased to present CRAZY\, an exhibition featuring the work of 31 female-identifying and non-binary artists that creates a safe space for rage\, protest\, and performance. Guest-curated by Jaime Ransome\, the exhibition will open Saturday\, January 10\, 2026\, and run through Sunday\, February 8. Together the 55 works are a vibrant celebration of creativity across media: painting\, photography\, installation\, light art\, video\, performance\, and sculpture. The exhibition confronts the centuries-old stereotype that expressive\, opinionated\, intelligent women are “crazy” by making space for authentic responses to the contemporary world and presenting those emotions as fine art. Inspired by Afropunk art movements and feminist punk music\, CRAZY showcases art that embraces maximalist self-expression as a method of personal and political advocacy. \nCurator Talk: 5:30 – 6pm\, Opening Reception: 6 – 8pm \nOpen Sat-Sun 12-6
